Thank you YGAT, for your invitation to perform and recognition of my excellence in Close-Up Magic.
I had a wonderful time performing my award winning act at Shunde, Gunagdong, China this weekend, and had the pleasure to meet so many magicians and enthusiasts of magic in China. I am once again reminded of the enthusiasm of magic that is shared across boundaries and nations; this is an unforgettable experience.
Until the next adventure!

What. A. Weekend.
Earlier this month, shortly after I joined the Hong Kong Magic Association, the current president Mr. Kenneth Chan called me and asked me to compete at Asian Magic Association’s (AMA) Close-Up Competition at the Sixth Magic Arts Week in Shenzhen, China.
Having won two conservative times at the Magic Castle’s Strolling Magic Showdown, I said, “Why not,” as I wanted to bring my unique blend of magic to a broader audience in Asia, but also compete in other formal competitions.
All of my fellow competitors put so much effort into their respective acts, therefore getting placed as 1st Runner Up among all the competition is a huge honor. Sincerely, thank you for all the judges who appreciated the work I put into my act!
But of course, I have also made so many new friends in China, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Spain, and the Unites States. Here are some special shoutouts.
Major congratulations to my new friend from Korea, @dowon_chann, who won both the Close-Up and Stage categories of the convention, in which he became the first double champion of the AMA’s convention!! What an achievement!! Enjoy the wins my friend!! I will see you headline at the Palace of Mystery and Close-Up Gallery soon!
Also major congratulations to my fellow representative from Hong Kong, @NickTong for placing third in the Stage category!
Special thanks to @kenneth_illusionist and @luisolmedo_magician for your wonderful magic and company throughout this weekend. Thank you @jeffreywangmagic for being a good host on and off stage for me, it is so good to see an old friend from the Magic Castle! And of course, thank you @m8penny for making this convention possible!
Above all, thank you everyone who supported my journey to share my art of magic to the world. This achievement is evidence of all of your continuous support!!
Until the next milestone!

I am beyond honored to share that I am now a published magician in two industry magazines - The Linking Ring and The Voice of the Fellowship of Christian Magicians (FCM)!
The first image is the cover page for my short piece, "The Theology of the Magical Arts: Reflections After Studying Apologetics at Biola University." Published with The Voice of FCM, I discussed my experience while pursuing a degree in Christian Apologetics at @biolauniversity and how what I learned about theology and apologetics affected my views and performance of magic. Specifically, I drew two experiences I had with @seanmcdowell that I think most people will find instructive.
The second piece was titled, "Build the Legacy: The Strategic Process of a Two-Time, Back-to-Back Champion of the Strolling Magic Showdown at The Magic Castle." Published by the magazine of The International Brotherhood of Magicians @ibmmagic , The Linking Ring, I had the honor to share my strategy for my consecutive wins at the Strolling Magic Showdown @magiccastlehollywood Many magicians found the article to be informative and helpful in building their own strategies for this extremely competitive and coveted championship.
Thank you to everyone who supported me in my pursuit of Christian Apologetics and the magical arts. Without all of you, I would not be here.
You may find my articles in:
- The Voice of FCM March - April 2025, Vol. 69, Iss. 2, pp. 24-27; and,
- The Linking Ring February 2025, Vol. 105, Iss. 2, pp. 26-28.
09/18/2024 - Congrats to @nelson_l28 becoming the current champion of the @magiccastlehollywood's Strolling Magic Showdown! Enjoy the win my friend!

Last night, on June 18, 2024, I became a second-time champion of the @magiccastlehollywood Strolling Magic Showdown.
Only a handful of people get to say they have achieved this prestigious honor two times. But fewer get to say they have achieved this in two consecutive competitions. I am privileged to be recognized and have this honor.
@chriscanfieldmagic, who achieved third place in his debut in the Strolling Magic Showdown (an achievement in and of itself ) said something that resonated with me, "It is a pleasure to win with friends." And I cannot agree more. To share the winners' circle with friends who are also the top magicians in the world (him and @joenamsinh) is indeed an incredible feeling.
And because I have won this competition two times, per its rules I must retire from competing in it. But this does not mean I am slowing down in my magic. More magic is to come, so stay tuned!

"Joshua Ng, billing himself as 'The Hong Kong Sensation,' graced the table of the Close-Up Gallery. Joshua dressed to the nines in a crisp, smart-looking tux, is soft spoken and humble, yet confident."
It is a true honor to be featured in the magic business's magazine #Genii. Thank you @shawnmcmaster for your kind words about my show in the Close-Up Gallery.

Life has been hectic lately, but better late than never to post about it:p
On March 19th, 2024, I became the champion of Strolling Magic Showdown of the @magiccastlehollywood, home of the Academy of Magical Arts.
After winning the championship @johnnyacepalmer told me to cherish saying, "I am the *current* champion of the Strolling Magic Showdown," as I cannot say that forever. And I have been, and I will until it expires.
And there is only one thing for me to say to all those who supported and appreciated my magic in and outside of this competition: Thank you 😊.
It has been a week since I made my sophomore appearance in the Close-Up Gallery at the @magiccastlehollywood.
Here are some of my favorite shots by the talented @lmcaptured.
Even though this is my sophomore appearance, this is the first time I performed at the club in white tie or full fig. Even though it is the classical magician's uniform, it is rarely seen today, especially in Southern California. Wearing full fig while perfectly following the rules (which I have learned from @gentlemansgazette) certainly elevated my performance, even in the Close-Up gallery.
Thank you @jackgoldfinger for recognizing my talents and allowing me to perform at our prestigious clubhouse again. Thank you to all the magicians who appreciate my work and encouraged me to pursue this high honor.
And of course, thank you to everyone who made time to come and see my show!
Even though my week at the Magic Castle is over, it does not mean the magic stops there. Bigger and better magic is to come. Stay tuned.
One week until my return to the Close-Up Gallery (aka "my room") at the world-famous @magiccastlehollywood. I cannot wait to showcase my latest material to all of you!

I am excited to announce my return to the Close-Up Gallery at the world-famous @magiccastlehollywood from March 4th-10th, marking my sophomore performance at this prestigious venue.
Thank you all who supported me throughout my magic career and recognizing my talents.
From me to you,
Merry Christmas 2023

he was crushed for our iniquities;
upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace,

Punk' N' Pie 2023
Last month, I had the privilege to compete at my university @biolauniversity's anual student talent show Punk' N' Pie, hosted by @biola_oce. I was honored to receive third place, behind Cameron, who sang beautifully, and George, or did an original RAP song.
This performance was one that is different than my normal work, because I am primarily a close up magician. This contest required me to perform my material on a stage setting. It is my first step out of my comfort zone.
But thanks to @thejohngraham, his book "Stage by Stage" had helped me to understand parlor and stage magic as a close-up magician. I was able to execute the concepts discussed in his book and delivery close-up sleight of hand magic to a big stage. The results are self-evident.
This means, my friends, expect better, and BIGGER magic to come!
Tricks for six, with laughter, cheers, and applause for the "course" of magic, by yours truly.
A week ago, I had the privilege to perform in a private event near Temecula, CA. My performance was a birthday surprise to my client's girlfriend, and he had me hid behind a bookcase to a speakeasy, similar to that of the Magic Castle.
At first I thought I was going to perform in the living room. But this environment allowed me to adapt and maximize my performance that I could not have done in other venues. It naturally sets up this mini-stage for the guests' attention, which allowed me to execute some classic routines with ease.
With that being said, I did a variety show in this setting. I opened with Hitchcock by Joshua Jay, then followed with Linking Rings, my close-up card act, and a finale of the ancient Chop Cup. But the cheers of the crowd demanded an encore, so I reprised with my favorite coin routine - Call Shots by Dean Dill.
After the performance, the birthday girl said to me, "I have always wanted to see Chris Angel in Vegas. But my boyfriend had brought your magic to me instead! This is the best birthday I ever had in my life."
09/19/2023 - I was placed 2nd in the AMA Strolling Magic Showdown.
The winners - To my right is @tetromagic, who placed 1st. And to my left is @dreamupright, who placed 3rd. Being in second place makes a nice sandwich.
As the legendary magician Lisa Menna said - the AMA Strolling Magic Showdown is no joke.
In two hours' time, competing magicians must hop from table to table to impress the judges, who are used to seeing world-class magic.
It is a true test of a magician's craftsmanship, showmanship, and endurance.
For my set, I opted to do an all-cards act. I used materials from my Close-Up Gallery Show, which derived from my experience of strolling magic in college and in restaurants.
I structured my set by giving my audience the teaser, then an appetizer, then a kicker, and lastly, a triumphal finale that summarizes what I mean by "fresh."
As my mentor Tony Picasso @thecardfathervip said - present your material with knock-out power, with a sprinkle of kindness. This, my friends, is how you win the crowd.
